Messiniakos has a long history. It was established in 1888. The club provided managerial personnel to the Organizing Committee of Athens Modern Olympics Games, in 1896. Today Messiniakos Athletics Club is one of the most recognized clubs in Greece. Louis Tsatoumas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hz3MzhJLDU) is the club’s most valuable athlete who achieved the incredible mark of 8.66m in the long jump (2006) and placed 4th to the World Athletics Indoor Championship in 2014. Messiniakos is also the main organizer of the International Meeting of Athletics ‘Papaflessia’ (http://www.papaflessia.gr/) which takes place every year in Kalamata (EAA Permit).
Messiniakos is represented by a large number of athletes who compete at most national athletics championships. The majority of the athletes are primary school students with ages ranging from 6 to 12. They form the Club’s Academy. The Academy has approximately 400 young athletes. The rest of the athletes (aged 12 and above) who form the official competition team are approximately 80.
